Day 2 Agenda: Jeep tour into the Rockies
Check out these 6 seater jeeps! We all piled in and hit the road.
We weren’t really sure where we were going, but the anticipation was intoxicating!
When the driver tied the stick shift up with a bungie cord, I wasn’t sure what to think….I was ready for a rough ride…and rough it was.
Up, up, up we went, all the way to 14,000 feet. Talk about needing some serious oxygen!

The roads were very rocky, we bumped up and down so much, that my back and shoulders were killing me afterwards…
but it was totally worth it to get all these great shots.
Look at this gorgeous view! Our driver gave us all the lowdown on all the mountains i.e. names, history, etc.

Here are some Colorado Aspens. The driver told us that all of the Aspen were rooted to one mother tree, and went on to explain how complex the root systems were.
God’s creation is just amazing, absolutely amazing…..

One gorgeous shot after another as my neck tossed back and forth trying to snap as many pix as I could.
So grateful to be able to see things and places that I’ve never seen before!
I heard a very sad commentary about the Mountain Pine Beetle. This critter’s larvae is a real problem in Colorado, thousands and thousands of acres of pines have been destroyed. It’s just a matter of time before some of them catch fire, possibly causing a state-wide emergency. Here is a story about the Mountain Pine Beetle, if you’re interested.
OCD moment: A first in my life, I had to pee in the woods! Actually, everyone did, men and women. With the rough ride, you just couldn’t hold it for 6+ hours. But I’m over it….go me.
There was a rodeo scheduled that evening, but after about 6 hours in the jeep, we were pooped. We feel asleep, missing the rodeo and then woke up for a late dinner. Great day!

Hi Kelly! What beautiful photos from the jeep ride. The aspens are great wallpaper shots. I’m enjoying your blog and reading through your archives. I need to take time to go through my photos, too. Maybe later in the week when all the laundry is done and I’m caught up on your stories.
Take care, Stacy
I was perusing WFMW and had to hop over…. our honeymoon was in Vail almost eleven years ago!!! It’s such a beautiful place! We stayed at a small inn named Tivoli Lodge, near the base of the mountain, and loved every minute of it.
It was in the winter, so we skied our little hearts out, but I bet it is fun to visit in the summer, too!
We’ve been back twice since for a long weekend (on a much smaller scale) and stayed at a hotel in Golden (much less expensive), driving into Vail during the day.
What fun! Congrats on your second honeymoon!
Jaime,
Thank you soooo much! We sure had a lot of fun and yes, next time a less expensive lodging alternative might be useful, I’ll keep that in mind. There were lots of little multi-family condos around the base of the mountain, that might be another option.
Take care!
those shots are majestic! what beautiful creation!!
