This was the night before Christmas this year in our family room! There is just something magical about a Christmas tree….
Fast forward to the week after Christmas and the focal point of our family room looks pretty bare.
I have 8×10 framed pictures of all the kids that I usually keep on the mantel, but I wanted to do something a little different this season….bring some winter into my home.
Decorating professional I am not. However, my style is Old World and my colors are burgundy, olive, taupe and mustard. Armed with this and three little peeps, I ventured to Hobby Lobby to find something new for the mantel.
Wondering the isles, I saw these pictures. I always love this kind of thing but I don’t have a lot of hanging wall space.
Keep walking….
Oh so pretty…..looking for something to hit me.
These are nice, but so expensive! Wow, prices have gone up everywhere. I have a budget I’m trying to stick to….
keep walking.
Aren’t these three just the cutest?
Getting warmer….I like these candle sticks a lot and they’re 50% off, but at $30, that’s still more than I want to spend….
keep walking.
Birdhouses. Very cute. Very expensive. Is it me? Am I too cheap?
Keep looking.
Ooooooh, animal prints. I love animal prints.
Again, too expensive. Better yet, I’ll save the animal prints for a purse.
It is no wonder the kids hate shopping with me.
Finally to the clearance isle, which is where I should have started.
Here’s a strong possibility! Animal print-ish, $8….put in cart.
Now, HERE they are!
Take the other ones back, these are about $8 also….SOLD.
Oooooh, winter holly WITH feathers! $15.99 with 80% off….my price.
Back home, here’s the final product!
The “God so loved the World” pic was $17.99 with 40% off! Plus I loved the color and the scripture.
In my decorating, I try to keep it very simple. I also look for items that have some meaning for me or give me a good feeling to look at.
I really like this look!
Here’s my entry. See the little sconce thing on the wall? I decorate it with seasonal flowers all year, whatever I can find. Sometimes fresh, other times silk.
This contains both.
The hydrangea and the two daisies are artificial. Then I went outside and walked around until I found a nice big pine tree and started cutting. This is what I came up with. The smell is wonderful!
Now it’s YOUR turn, what did you come up with?
You don’t have to do something in your own home if you aren’t able, maybe you can tell us about something that you saw at a store or something that you would like to put together at some point.

Love it! We are very similar. I’ll take pics of mine soon.
Keri,
Great, I can’t wait to see your pics!
Kelly
Always challenging me!! Not sure if I can do this or not but you’ve got my mind thinking again. I loved yours!!
Kimi,
No pressure or expectations, if nothing else just enjoy! This is really my first year of trying this and I’m having fun with it.
Take care,
Kelly
Just perfect!
Thanks, Melissa!
That is beautiful. Love that you even have feathers!
Molly,
Yeah, I really lucked out with that arrangement! A little winter and little funk with the feathers! LOL!
Kelly
I didn’t mean my comment in a bad way. It’s good. You get me to thinking. Last night every room I walked in a paused and wondered if I could do something in this room? It is fun. Thanks!
You have inspired me to make some changes in my home. Not one of my strengths.
Thanks, Sue
Hey Sue,
I would love to see what you come up with! So glad to hear from you!
Kelly
Really pretty! Maybe you have more interior decorator in you than you know.
Jamie,
Thanks for the encouragement! LOL!
Kelly
We have the same taste Kelly, I have that exact same picture on my wall (For God So Loved The World).
Trac,
That is too funny!
