Hot beverages….there’s just nothing better on a cold winter day! I love ‘em all, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and any variations of the afore mentioned.
In my last post about coffee, I discussed the importance of a proper mug to drink it from. A poor mug can completely ruin the entire coffee drinking experience, much less something like a Styrofoam cup….yuck!
My favorite Starbucks cup is (was) the above, until it chipped in the dishwasher. I try to protect my mug and hand-wash it at night, but sometimes despite my best efforts, someone puts it in the dishwasher anyway. This is what happened.

It’s not the end of my ‘coffee-drinking world’, but still, now I have to worry about how soon it will begin to crack. So, around the holidays, when all the really cute mugs are out, I began to look for a good replacement.
#1 – It has to have a dark interior.
#2 – It has to have a thick wall and not get hot in the microwave. I can tell this by feeling it now.
I looked and looked, picked up mugs in stores and put them back down. Finally, I was at Starbucks for what might be my final Gingerbread Latte of the year and saw this mug on the right. The white exterior threw me for just a minute, but when I held it, I knew it was the one. Darned Starbucks, they just make really good mugs.
Bought it, took it home and we’ve been very good friends ever since.

Tightening the belt a bit around here has been on my mind a lot lately, so I’ve decided to (temporarily?) reduce my coffee budget and drink normal coffee….
Eight O’Clock is working for me. I buy the whole beans, grind up a few days worth and keep it in my handy-dandy Ziploc container.

One of my bad habits is buying more coffee than I’ll ever use. One reason I do this is that I just love the stuff. I also love to try different coffees.
Yet, I need to step back and drink up what I have until it’s gone.

I picked these up at Meijer when I saw them on the clearance rack. I thought I would use more of them in teacher’s bags for Christmas but I didn’t need as many as I thought.
Use them up!
My husband often asks me why I need so many creamers. What a silly question, don’t you think? (My husband doesn’t drink coffee)
Coffee drinkers know the answer, but for you who don’t love coffee as much as I do, I’ll tell you.
Variety! We just like our coffee in different ways…and frequently.
Yeah, more in the other frig….usually with all the holiday company I can’t keep it in the house…..
I guess I over-estimated. Use it up, Kelly.

My hot beverage corner….you can see my green tea in the square glass container.
Herbal tea…
Gotta talk about tea! I’ll admit that I don’t drink as much tea as I do coffee, but I really love green tea. Around the holidays, I like to try the seasonal flavors. These are in my cabinet right now.
Then I throw my used tea bags in the compost pile.
SO, what are YOU drinking these days? Do you prefer coffee or tea? Do you have a favorite mug? Tell us about it, either here on the blog or on Facebook….

Kelly-
I remember buying my boyfriend (now husband) a coffee mug with a dark interior for Christmas one year. He loved it because you can’t see the coffee stains. Unfortunatly I didn’t realize how hard it was to find dark interior coffee mugs!

Lisa
Lisa,
I don’t know why dark-colored interiors are hard to find, but I totally prefer them. I guess your hubs does too!
Thanks for commenting!!
The sweeter (read: the less it tastes like coffee) the better. I love cappucino!! I can drink tea, but I don’t love it. My favorite tea by far is Candy Cane Lane (Celestial Seasonings) but it’s seasonal. I can’t find any now and only have a little left in my cabinet. I also do not like regular sized mugs. I like really large mugs and tall mugs and they need to be really cute. I try to wash my favorite mug every day by hand so that I always have it available. However, funny you wrote about your chip because mine somehow ended up in the dishwasher just today and got chipped just like that!
Tracy,
I LOVE that tea! If you put a green tea bag with a peppermint tea bag, it’s similar. I went through 3 boxes of that stuff!
Sorry about your cup!
I have picked that mug up and put it down several times because I love it so but do I really need it?! I’m thinking I do!! I LOVE coffee. I like hot tea on occasions but usually follow my morning coffee with iced tea. Getting ready to indulge myself with a cup of cocoa with marshmellows. I don’t need it but I’m sure going to enjoy it. Think tomorrow while I’m running around I’ll be stopping by starbucks to see if they still have the cup!! Thanks Kelly!! Always write what I need to hear.
Kimi,
NOW, Starbucks has these totally cute dark red cups that I’ve picked up and sat down over and over now. I don’t need it but they are very cute. Check them out!
Enjoy your hot chocolate!
I love me some chocolate truffle coffee, no cream here, just sugar but bought some stevia to try today. Still eying me a “real” coffee mug since you forever ruin me with your last post!!
I think there is a give away in your future.
Melissa,
You totally crack me up!! You and your giveaway ideas!
I can’t drink stevia for some reason, makes me cough.
Ooooh those sound cute. I think I’ve seen those before. I hope I have time to stop!! Thanks!!
Kimi,
Let me know if you get one!
I love a good cup of coffee. I am not a huge fan of flavored coffees. I do like the flavored if it is decaf. (No I can’t explain it.) Love tea almost as much. As long as the liquid is hot. I mean piping hot. To me there is nothing worse than a lukewarm cup of coffee.
Lissa,
Thanks for commenting and welcome!
Ewwwww, you are sooo right, lukewarm coffee is the worst thing in the world!
Take care!
I personally feel that you can never, ever, ever have too much coffee.
Don’t know about the creamers, but I have read that you can keep coffee fresh by freezing it. Enjoy!
Hey Jamie,
Amen on never having enough coffee.
I’ve heard that you can freeze leftover coffee and make coffee ice cubes. One of those ideas I’ll get around to one day….
Thanks for commenting!!
Something to think about with all those flavored creamers – I’ve used them on my plain oatmeal…simple way to add sweet and flavor
Emily,
What a great idea! My kids would totally love that!
Can I post your idea on Facebook?
Certainly!!
