Ephy wasn’t all that impressed with snow last year as he witnessed it for the first time.
Actually, he isn’t too impressed this year either. He doesn’t like the cold one bit. The rest of the Morris kids LOVE the snow and will take any opportunity to go out and play.
That really pleases me for several reasons. One being that playing safely in the colder weather promotes immunity in my kids. Second, it’s good for the kids to get outside and burn some energy!
The Morris kidlets are unusually creative with their play…sometimes that’s a scary thing. I suppose all kids are that way, thinking of new ways to go faster, etc.

This is Meredith speeding down our icy driveway without much fear….I guess you get that way with 6 brothers.
This winter has been the year of the tricked-out golf cart. Once again, the kids continue to think of ways to be creative in their play. They have recently hooked the dog leash to the back of the golf cart and then drag each other on the saucer. Geez. An intertube would probably be fun, I’ll work on that for next year.
OK, your turn, what do your kids like to do in the snow? Tell us your crazy stories!

We just came in from our first skate of the winter on our lake! There’s nothing more glorious than skating outside….tonight under the stars. We love it!
Jennifer,
We have a pond but after the basset hound almost fell through, there’s no way I’m getting out there. Your skate does sound fabulous! There are some local skating rinks around here, but it’s been years since we’ve been. Thanks for the reminder, we need to get that in this winter.
we love skating on our local lake but with the huge snowfalls, that is not something we can do this winter – the lake is beyond clearing for skating.
our kids love to sled – we have a small hill in the yard and they will spend hours on it. they build small jumps and ramps, use their little snowboards too. They are even happier when one of us can take them to a big hill. fun is!
S,
That sounds like a blast! My kids are good at building big ramps and such, it’s a lot of fun!
Ummm…my kids usually shove their hands in their pockets and stand there shivering.
They are native Floridians and luckily we got to Indiana at Christmas BEFORE all the snow melted by New Years … they got to try the snowmobile but said it was just too cold and too bright (12 degrees and crystal clear skies!) … tubing at the Lake (Indiana Dunes State Park) was probably the highlight of Sonny Boy’s trip I think …
But the nephews and neices (who live there) were making igloos, snow tunnels, and yes, the 4 wheeler pulling sleds, but the snow was pretty darn deep in areas for that!
Hi Jan!
Thanks for commenting! I grew up in Sarasota, Florida and can totally relate to the struggle to cope with cold weather. I didn’t see real snow until I was a teenager, what a shock!
THEN we brought home 3 Ethiopians who are used to living on the equator! However, they have done MUCH better in the snow that I thought they ever would, except for Ephy.
Stay warm !
