It’s just one of those recurring chores that must happen once in a while…..cleaning and organizing a cabinet.
As someone who cooks a lot, it doesn’t take long for my spice and baking supply cabinets to look like a disaster. I’ve stopped fighting it, frankly. OCD and I parted ways a long time ago and no one ever died from a messy cabinet. Just every few months, I need to tear into my messiest cabinets and straighten them up.
First things first….empty out the cabinet completely.
Second, clean your cabinet out throughly. How often do you see this much of your cabinet???
One of the best reasons to address your disorganized cabinets is to avoid multiple purchases of items you already have. As you can see, it’s happened to me a time or two, primarily because I can’t find them!
I don’t think it’s necessary to have lots of gadgets to be organized, nor do I think that everything needs to be color-coordinated or in alphabetical order.
Think about what you use the most. Put those items closest to you. My baking items are what I use the most and so I moved them to the bottom shelf.
Duplicates went out to the pantry and several outdated items were pitched. I feel so much better!
Years ago, I kept all of my flour, sugar, etc. in containers. I was purchasing in bulk and this worked out for a while. The problem was that the containers needed to be filled up every couple of days. In addition to that, I discontinued buying in bulk for now because I wasn’t really saving any money with my co-op after I paid for shipping.
Now, I just buy the #5 bags of flour and sugar at Aldi or Walmart and just use them up. That’s working for me now. The only bulk I buy now is wheat berries and I get them at Walmart.
So, let’s talk about that cabinet, you know the one, that needs cleaned out. You can post before & after pictures on our Facebook page!

Wow! Impressive! Your cabinets “before” look just ilke mine do now, with alot of the same ingredients and even brands. And I completely relate to the double (or triple) purchasing of the same item because you dont know what’s in the cabinet. Great post!
Looking forward to following your blog!
