This is one of the most exciting packages I receive all year….my seed order!!
Johnny’s Seeds is one of my favorite places to order my garden supplies from, even though I began seed saving last year and I didn’t need as many.
Starting your own seeds isn’t difficult, but there are some key things to be aware of, check out my post about seed-starting here.
This week, I finished February’s edition of “A Year On a Homestead” which features “How to Make Great Bread“. You are going to love this video!
I cover everything from:
What pans are best for baking bread?
How to grind grain!
What kind of wheat berries do you need?
What if I don’t own a grain mill?
What does “develop the gluten” mean and how do you know when it’s ready?
How to avoid too-dense loaves by this one simple trick!
Variations of the same great recipe that you will love!
Making bread for your family is so satisfying! Watching it disappear as your children and husband smile and ask for more will encourage you to keep bread-making as part of your time in the kitchen.
“How to Make Great Bread” will be available next week, be sure to check it out!
Other “A Year On A Homestead” videos in the making are “Homestead Lighting without Electricity” as well as “Learning How to Weave“.
First quarter of the year is the best time to take classes and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. The venues have varied but all have been fairly humble settings, which goes to prove that you don’t need to be in a school to learn! This church basement served as the sight of the root cellar class I took a couple of weeks ago, and it was FREE!
Not only should we find and support these efforts, but don’t be afraid to teach one yourself! That’s what it’s all about, teaching this next generation the skills that we may or may not have learned ourselves growing up.
What was YOUR week like? What challenges did you overcome? How were you blessed?

The bread looks great. I start my own seed every year. . Mainly because i am inpatient . I can’t wait to start planting
Michelle,
You and me both, sister!

Thanks for commenting and reading, Clint!
Your bread looks mouth watering!
Isn’t it wonderful how folks are so willing to teach others? Thank you to you for sharing so much of your knowledge with me. I am a better person for it.
Continued blessings…
Um, wait, that didn’t make sense.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Yeah, that’s it…
I think I need another cup a joe!
Have a wonderful weekend Kelly!
This video and the others in the series sound exciting. My week has been fairly quiet. I’ve got my taxes completed…Yeah!!! They will be e-filed today. I decided this week that I want to try growing tomatoes this year, because I want to make my own homemade tomato ketchup and other stuff. I’m also going to try making dandelion coffee. It’s 100% roasted dandelion and since coffee (while I LOVE the taste) doesn’t agree with my physical body, this is a great alternative. I’m still looking for work and trying to figure out how I can earn money from home. What else? I”m setting up my own home management binder and that has been a blast
Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather
Awesome! I know what you mean about the best package of the year. I’ve been itching to get some seeds started for weeks now and I finally did last week. I love starting the seeds indoors because you don’t even have to go outside to be around your plants.
