Taking a Break

After over 3 years of consistent writing, it’s time for this mama to take a break!

I will be unplugging from Facebook and the website.   As much as I’ll miss hearing from everyone,  I need some time to clear out my thoughts and get rejuvenated.

I’ll be back after the first of the new year and wish you a Happy 2013.

If you are new here, check out “How to Get Started Homesteading“.

My video page will keep you busy with tutorials on pressure canning, sprouting, bread making, making your own detergent and much more!

Thinking about raising your own meat?  Read more here about how to get started!

We will miss you- Enjoy the holidays with the family!

Our project for the quilted ornaments is going well- the BSA and the Grange have joined our efforts! The goal of 5000 ornaments seems large, but using a small simple ornament and lots of hands- it is getting to be a reality! For those who have not heard-

This is a service project for those who have been in a storm and lost their keepsakes. Many near and dear to us will be celebrating the holidays without their tree and ornaments. A few Young Women in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints started a project to make ornaments and garland for families affected by Hurricane Irene in New York. Our Stone Soup group would like to extend this project to others around the country and the world.
The goal set has been set to have 5000 ornaments made and given out. Find someone locally that is in need- wrap them in a small box or in a plastic gift bag and “Secret Friend” them to someone’s front door. Later, report back online to tell us your feelings when you dropped off the package, and their possible future response. We are hooking up with local care groups to add to this project.
There are so many websites that have patterns for simple items from scraps of fabric- see the hummingbird ornament from Joan Ford’s blog hummingbird-highway.com and others. Many can be knitted, crocheted, sewn or made from felt with glue.

So many of our friends have been burned out by fire, flooded out by storms, or winds have blown away their homes. What a great way to share the crafts but by sharing a dozen or two of ornaments!

Thanks all! And Thanks Kelly!! You’re AWESOME!!
